$3 Embroidered Curtains and an Antique Secretaire...

Would you believe me if I told you I acquired 4 embroidered jute curtain panels for $3 a panel at a thrift store? Curtain panels that are regularly $59.95 a panel for the size I found.

Crazy Huh?

We also acquired a beautiful piece of antique furniture to finish off the living room in European pine...

I had the curtain panels all bunched up in my windows for a little while trying to figure out what to do with them because they are so long...

I didn't want to cut them and restitch them because the design is embroidered through the panel and I didn't want to mess it up, so I bought some little plastic rings and ruched them in my entryway windows...

I won't lie to you - - - -
It took me hours and hours to sew those little rings on and get them to look the way I wanted, but it was so worth it. They're really nice curtain panels and they were well worth the $12 they cost me.
(=

I finally have a permanent set of curtains hung.
It's only taken me 4 years to figure it out...

~I'm an 'anti' mini-blind person, so blinds were out of the question~!

We also acquired a new piece of antique pine furniture to complete the living room.

It's an antique, European, pine  "Secretaire"...

I found it by a fluke and jumped at the opportunity to own it...
I used to have a vintage, mahogany china cabinet in the corner. That mahogany furniture now has a new home. Even the large, mahogany buffet in the entryway has moved on and made room for a petite, pine desk.

(Taking pictures of my house is futile~ I do the best I can with the knowledge I possess in the picture taking area...)

It was hard to pass down the mahogany furniture, but I have a weakness for antique pine and this was just the piece I needed to complete the living room...

It has insane storage room - - -
I can fit lots of trinkets in her.

And, she is older than she looks...
She is all hand made and she is HEAVY~!

I have the other 2 curtain panels hanging straight in the windows at the sides of the couch and I adore them~~~ I also can't figure out how to get my little camera to get a good picture of them...

    1. I find the darnd'est things at the thrift shop -
These were an especially nice find. At first I was worried they were too busy,
but they worked out well. I love the filtered light that linen lets in. It adds a softness to everything in here.
I finally have some permanent curtains - yay...
      (I am so picky!)

    1. I love this old place, but it's a work in progress...
      They did turn out gorgeous~!
This place is definitely unique - only charm that an old house can have, that's for sure...

  3. It looks Lovely and the Idea of ruched curtains to solve the length problem was Brilliant and turned out Beautifully! Our New Home has mini blinds, which are very convenient and help insulate, but I am slowly but surely putting my Gypsy Curtain window treatments up and over them as we can get them Created! *smiles* I am finding that the dimensions of these windows are epic tho' so my dilemma has been more that every curtain is too short and must be lengthened... so I've been adding fabrics... would like for them to puddle on the floors for a desired length. We adapt and improvise don't we? *winks* Merry Christmas from the Arizona Desert... Dawn... The Bohemian

    1. I do believe that lengthening drapes might be a bit more challenging than shortening them...
I would love drapes that puddle on the floor - beautiful!
Perhaps, in an upstairs bedroom when those get complete?
I hope your drapes are turning out beautiful and that you're getting settled in to your new surroundings well...
Merry Christmas from Central Utah also -
It's finally warming up a bit today and I'm excited to go outside~!
