Talking to myself is like talking with an echo...

I don't get any argument, but I don't get any results either~!

Why, oh why am I so indecisive?
Why do I feel this overwhelming need to just 'think on things' for so long?
I am self-over-controlled... <And, I talk to myself too much!>

My issue today ~ well, all my issues seem to have their own issues... <wink>
I have got to figure out what to do with these pans~!

I only cook with cast iron & ironware cookware...
I'm 'terrified' of aluminum and if teflon kills birds, well, I can't afford to lose anymore brain cells~
(I have freakish fears about microwaves too, but we'll save that for the future!)
I like cast iron. Food tastes better cooked in cast iron. But, these oak cupboards in this house ARE NOT cast iron friendly... They are well, kind of 'flimsy' on the inside. I wouldn't dare put cast iron in and out of them, or I know it would beat them up. So, what do I do with them?

I have a few options I'm thinking on, but as the subject states, I'm not arguing with myself, but I'm not coming up with a definitive solution either...

What I can agree with myself on, is that I'm sick of the pans on the stove and the little counter...

I hate this linoleum too~ someday, I dream of wood floors...
Wood flooring is definitely at the top of my 'Bucket List' for the kitchen~!
~Just another one of my issues~

Yes, I have a 'pan drawer' in the bottom of the old cookstove, but it's filled up with more cast iron pans...
I have an extensive collection ~

So, I ran across this pic on pinterest <of course> and it gave me an idea...

I'm loving the rustic look of the pans hanging on the side of the island ~ I have a bar... Hmmm...
Not quite dead set on the idea, but I'm 'thinking' on it <as usual>...

The bar counter sticks out past the cupboards, so the pans would hang under the counter....

Please ignore the ugly, old carpet, there will be wood flooring someday, I pray~!

I have these old, chunky barn type boards in the coal shed ~ well, I'm with a guy who owns a sawmill anyway, so I can have rough sawn, planed wood, I can get whatever I want, but these are 10' out the door...

I can have the man-child put some old, rough sawn across that bar facing and put up some old architectural hooks and hang my cast iron pans on the end of that bar... ???

I have so many old crates in my kitchen anyway, that the old rough sawn planks would fit right in. Besides, I'm still wishing for a garbage can made out of rough sawn lumber, old planking and a piece of old punched tin roofing, so why not...

But, there's also the option of taking the old dishwasher out and throwing it in the weeds.
I have two dishwashers, my right hand & my left hand and the mechanical one is taking up a huge space in my kitchen.
(I detest dishwashers. I've always done the dishes with my own two hands)

The pro's of this idea ~
~It would add a rustic zing to the end of that ugly oak bar facing (have I ever mentioned I hate oak?)...
~It would give me a place to hang my cast iron cookware and with the rough sawn hooked to the facing, its the rough sawn that would get dinged and dented...
~It would match the kitchen, if I done it to look like the big beam on the ceiling and mimicked the old crates...
(I said it right... I didn't say roof. I've been properly trained, maybe...)

The con's of this idea~
~If I didn't like it, I would have holes in the bar facing from nailing up the rough sawn...
~My big white dog would eventually rub against my cookware... lol
~ I don't think I would bang a knee on it, but there's a reason they didn't name me "Grace"...
<Blah, blah, blah...>

Or, I could just rip out the mechanical dishwasher. Have the Man-Child make me some heavy duty shelving for that hole and store the cast iron cookware in the dishwasher - hole - shelving spot...

Now that I've written it all out, I'm kind of leaning toward the dishwasher- hole option ~ Oy' Vey'...
Help me out here, I'm so indecisive...
Where do you store your cast iron cookware in your kitchen?

I have never had a definite moment, or epiphany where I made a choice to pursue anything the moment I thought of it...

Of course, this is probably why it takes me so long to complete timely too~
It's not that I'm a "perfectionist," it's that I think too much~!

  1. I only have one cast iron skillet. You're right, they are great. But, I also like Revere Ware stainless steel with copper bottoms. You can find it at thrift stores, etc cuz people want nonstick. They can't wash a pan.
