Charlie has officially "jumped ship"...

Well, he's still doing his job as a sheep protector, he just hangs out with new friends...
And, he's drinking out of the 'big boy trough' - I'm fearful this has gone to his head~!

On the left there, is "Saddler." My palomino...
In the middle is "Charlie" - although, he looks like a little pony in the pic and he has started to view himself as one of the big boys (horses), he's not... He's my alpaca having a personality crisis~!
To the right is "Little Ray" my retired polo pony...

Poor little alpaca doesn't know where he belongs. He's seemed to have made a bond with "Little Ray"... Anywhere Little Ray goes, Charlie goes. It's cute, it's concerning and it's a new bond, but it's creating chaos in the pasture. See, Little Ray and Saddler are inseparable and Saddler is feeling neglected by the lack of attention from Little Ray. Little Ray keeps spending his days enjoying Charlie's company and Saddler does his best to chase Charlie off. Now, when Saddler attempts to "Get rid of the alpaca," Little Ray is getting offended.

It's actually funny to watch - I don't think Saddler would ever hurt Charlie. It seems Saddler might come to terms with the issue in time - I hope and start to enjoy Charlie's company too...

It's an interesting change of schematics in the pasture though. Even the sheep are confused. They get incredibly confused when Charlie goes over and starts "herding" them around. Alpaca's aren't suppose to do that~!

It's one of those traits Charlie has learned from Little Ray. See, Little Ray retired from polo and was on a sheep herd for a few years. He's kind of like my 'sheep herder'... When Ray thinks it's time for the sheep to get up and get moving, he goes over and herds them where he wants them to be. Now, he's taught Charlie the trick and Oy' Vey... I think the sheep are tired of being moved from place to place. At least Charlie is kind enough to herd them into the shade, whereby Little Ray seems to herd them into the sun.

Wow, watching these clowns is fun...
I sure hope Charlie finds himself in this big old world soon...
I can relate to being lost~!

Regardless of what the pecking order is in the pasture though, Charlie still comes right over to me, to help me eat my chocolate chip cookie...
<snickers ~ yes, he looks funny watching him chew without top teeth...>

The only thing better than friends, are friends with chocolate chip cookies~!

  2. It's a menagerie I have...
I was out there last night watching my lambs walk right under the horses and feed. I didn't have a camera, darn... It's just not everyday you see such a group that seems to 'get along' with each other so well... I don't think they realize they're not all the same species. Or, perhaps, most people don't put so many different breeds of animals all in the same pasture?
I luv them... glad they live with me. They're all awesome!
